Racing on a deserted road isn't necessarily safer either. Of course I've got to mention the near-misses that occur when street racers cut someone off.ĭon't do this unless it's on the track. I've witnessed numerous races-on freeways and streets with regular traffic-where one driver will drive on the shoulder, the suicide lane (the center/left turn lane), or even into oncoming traffic just to get a slight edge. This other factor is: the win goes to the driver with the least regard for public safety. The other factor that determines winning, especially if the cars are evenly matched, is what really gives street racing a bad name.

When cars of different classes compete-like a Civic versus a Camaro for example-the Civic driver will have to throw in a lot of cash before it can even begin to hang with the Camaro. Of course spending 20 grand on engine modifications will make the car faster than the one that is near stock. Many times the winner is the guy that spent the most money on his car. (note: sarcasm.) In reality, there are two major factors that determine the victor of a street race. This is after a rigorous session of loitering in some random parking lot. Wow, these guys can drive in a straight line for 14 seconds. Especially where street drag racing is concerned. Some people may argue that street racing does take driving skill. This is not limited to the "ricers" either both import and domestic owners are guilty of endangering property and lives. Keep in mind that these incidences were on a relatively busy road or freeway-not on some back road at three in the morning. Hell, I've been in accidents (while in a friend's car) that were caused by street racing. There have been numerous times where I've almost been hit while driving because of some street racing punks. I'm not too fond of these "racers"-who have no concept of advanced car control-hurtling down a public street at high rates of speed. However, the thing is: street racers really can't drive. Sure, the kid was young and perhaps a bit naive, but this seems to be the common attitude amongst street racers.
